A timeline of some of Arnold Palmer's connections to the Coachella Valley and the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.

1956: Palmer plays his first tournament in the desert at the Thunderbird Invitational.
1959: Palmer wins the Thunderbird Invitational, coming from behind in what would become trademark Palmer fashion with a final-round 62.
1960: Palmer wins the inaugural Palm Springs Golf Classic, the tournament that would be renamed for Bob Hope.
1962: Palmer wins Palm Springs tournament.
1963: Palmer has a cameo in Bob Hope's movie "Call Me Bwana."
1966: Palmer loses a playoff in the Hope tournament to Doug Sanders.
1968: Palmer wins third Hope title.
1971: Palmer defeats Ray Floyd in a playoff to win his fourth Hope title.
1973: Palmer overtakes and then holds off Jack Nicklaus to win his fifth Hope title and the 62nd and final PGA Tour title of his career.
1986: Palmer is among the foursome for the first Skins Game played in the desert at PGA West.
1988: The Palmer Course at PGA West in La Quinta, designed by Palmer's design company, joins the Hope tournament rotation.
1989: Palmer plays in the Senior Skins Game at La Quinta Resort, the only year the event is played in desert.
1995: The Palmer-designed Indian Ridge Country Club replaces the Palmer PGA West Course in rotation.
1997: Palmer misses the Hope tournament because of prostate cancer surgery, the first time he skips the tournament. That same year, Tradition Golf Club in La Quinta, another Palmer design, opens. Tradition becomes Palmer's new home in the desert after decades of having a home at Bermuda Dunes Country Club.
1998: The Palmer Course at PGA West returns to the rotation in place of Indian Ridge.
2001: In the final round of the Hope at the Palmer Course at PGA West, Palmer shoots a 1-under 71, becoming the first player in event history to shoot his age.
2006: Classic Club in Thousand Palms just north of Interstate 10, another Palmer course, joins the Hope rotation as the host course of the event.
2008: After a two-year delay, the Palmer-designed SilverRock Resort in La Quinta becomes the third Palmer course in the Hope rotation, joining Classic Club and the Palmer PGA West Course.
